Daniel Tammet, an extraordinary autistic savant, recited pi to 22,514 digits in just over five hours on Pi Day, March 14, 2004, at the Museum of History of Science, Oxford, UK. Read more about Tammet in his book, Born on a blue day : inside the extraordinary mind of an autistic savant : a memoir. He describes what it's like to see words and numbers as shapes and colors and how he is able to solve complicated math problems quickly. He is able to learn new languages within a week's time simply by absorbing their patterns.
