The Computers Are Coming!

60 new public computers are currently being installed across Richmond Public Library branches! This exciting news is made possible by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, with matching funds provided by the City of Richmond.

The hardware grant program that is responsible for providing the computers is known as "Opportunity Online" and further details regarding the implementation and goals of the program can be found on the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation website here. You can also read more about the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation's commitment to library and technology access for all people right here.

More importantly, what do these new computers mean for you?

- Expanded access & availability of fast, free internet connections and up-to-date software.

- More computers at each branch means larger class sizes will be possible for our free basic computer classes. Check out current class schedules at your library here.

- Increased opportunities to do class work, search online for jobs, learn a language or study for a civil service test - all for free.

Additionally, these 60 computers are only the beginning of new hardware being installed and updated at your library. Additional computers are planned for future installation as the City of Richmond and the Public Library complete in-progress branch renovations.

So come and take a test drive. We are very excited to extend this offer to you. Let us know what you think!
