One of the best things about learning a collection is discovering "new" titles.  I recently read a book from 2011 titled One Dog and His Boy by the late, great author Eva Ibbotson.  This was the last book she published and I, for one, will miss her wonderful characters and insight on children and adults.  This gem of a book is a treat for readers ages 8 and up, and would be an excellent read-aloud.  All Hal has ever wanted was a dog, a companion in the dreary, high class world his parents have created.  Dogs are too messy, too much trouble, according to Hal's mother.  To appease Hal his parents rent a dog for the weekend and fail to share with Hal the time limit.  Enter Kayley, the caretaker at the dog rental store, and her sister Pippa, who assists Hal with his rescue.  As the plot unfolds the reader meets a cast of characters, including five rental dogs who long for their own place in the world.  Speeding along to a satisfying conclusion, this wonderful novel reminds you that a simple story, well told, is a gift.

Reading is So Delicious!

And don't forget...Summer Reading is coming!  Stop by your local library between June 16 and August 4 to sign up for the Summer Reading program.  This summer our theme is "Reading is So Delicious" and every library has programs planned to add great fun to your summer while encouraging reading.  Preschool, elementary, teen and adult readers can sign up for a program tailored just to their level.
In June, Barbara Martin will bring her musical talents to each library for a special program titled "From Ragtime to Rock-n-Roll" that is fun for all ages.
In July look for the Yo-Yo Man, Dick Stohr, to visit each library with a spectacular yo-yo program called "The Science of Spin" for kids ages 5 and up.
Pick up a Check It Out at your local library for details, or visit the website www.richmondpubliclibrary.org
