52 Ways to use your Library Card: Week Two

WEEK TWO: Pick up voter registration information and become and informed voter

November will be here before you know it, which means that it is almost election time. Whether you need to register to vote or learn more about the candidates and issues, your local library is a great place to empower yourself to become an informed voter!

Richmond Public Library branches are just one of the several locations where you can pick up a copy of the Voter Registration Application. As per the Virginia State Board of Elections, the application deadline to vote in the November 6, 2012 general election is October 15, 2012.  The VSBE website has lots of useful information; including where to vote, election results and information on how to vote absentee. Already a Registered Voter and want to work as an Election Official? Apply online!

Click here to access their forms, including the Voter Registration form and the Absentee Ballot Request form.

But turning in your registration form isn't all you need to become an empowered voter and your local branch can provide one stop shopping!  Come into a branch to read a newspaper or magazine to learn about different sides or local opinion of current issues. Use a computer to research the candidates and their platforms. Did you miss watching the party conventions? Check out their websites to see what you missed ( Democrat or Republican ).

Knowledge is Power and becoming an informed voter is another reason why your library card is the smartest card in your wallet!
