Week Fifteen-Job
Seeking @ the Library
In the internet age, more and more companies are using the internet to post jobs and requiring people to fill out job applications online. At the Richmond Public Library we provide several services to job seekers, making the library one of your best resources for finding job opportunities.
1. Job Hunting Books/Resources
The Richmond Public Library can be an amazing
resource for providing the most current and up-to-date job hunting,
resume, and cover letter books. We also have a section on our website with links
to job opportunities. You can find the information by going to the Community tab on our webpage and clicking on Local Employment.
2. Computer Classes
We offer basic and
advanced computer courses at many of the branches . If you need help learning Microsoft Office, how to navigate the internet, or setting up an email account the public library offers free classes.
3. Help
with Resume Writing and Interviewing Services
Many libraries offer free resume writing and
interviewing services. The Main Library, for example, provides these services
with the help of volunteers and experts from the Daily Planet. It’s good to take advantage of the help to strengthen your job application skills and learn what it takes to catch an employer's eyes.
4. Free Internet
The library offers computers with internet and
printer accessibility. If you have your own computer, we have free Wi-Fi
access.
5. Job Clubs/Job
Search Workshops
The Daily Planet has set up more classes at the
Main Library. On Mondays at 11 a.m., they provide computer practice for those who
do not have experience with filling out applications online. On
Wednesdays at 1:30 p.m., they provide assistance, support, and advice to
those who are job seeking.
Many job seekers may not be aware of the services
RPL has to offer. If you want to improve your search, or if you know of
someone who is looking for a job, stop by the library and we can help!
